Dr Tarak Nath Podder Memorial Foundation is a charity based non profit voluntary organization established on 20th March, 2015 Regd.No : S/2L/34073/2014-2015 (West Bengal Societies Registration Act XXVI of 1961).

The Foundation was named after Dr Tarak Nath Podder (MSc. MB.) son of Sri Durga Charan Podder deceased, born at village Barat, Faridpur in East Bangal. Late Dr Tarak Nath Podder passed Matriculation in March, 1910 in 1st division. Then he passed ISc 1913, BSc 1915, MB 1921, MSc Zoology 1928 in 1st class from university of Calcutta.

He joined in service at R.G. Kar Medical College as Professor of Zoology in 1931.After then he joined as a visiting physician in chest department at Chittaranjan Hospital and Asharam Bhiwaniwala Hospital of Calcutta. He was also active member of Bengal Tuberculosis Association.

One century back he obtain Kabya-Ratnakar title from Arya-Sahitya-Samaj, Sovabazar street Calcutta.

He was actively research minded and published so many papers like-

  1. Acanthocephala parasites of certain fishes from Calcutta by M.N Dutt and T.N Podder. Records of the Indian Museum vol.XXXII part II pp.231-236, June 1935.

  2. A new species of Acanthocephala, Neoechinorhynus topseyi N. SP, from a Calcutta fish polynemus heptadactylus(CUV.& VAL.), by T.N Podder, MSc , MB from Parasitology vol.XXIX No. 3, 5th July 1937.

  3. On a new species of Acanthocephala, Neoechinorhynus Parasitic on Mugli Osphalus Linn, from the Chilka Lake by T.N. Podder. Records of the Indian Museum vol. XXXIX, Part II pp 129-131, July 1937.

  4. On a new species of Acanthocephala, Acanthocentis data NSP, from a fresh water fish of Bengal Barbus Ticto(Ham & Buch.) and P.Stigma (CUV. & VAL.) by T.N. Podder , MSc, MB from parasitology vol XXX No 2, 8th July 1938.

  5. On a new species of Acanthocephala, Acanthocentis Sircari, Sp Nov from a Calcutta fish Rasbora elanga(liam) by T.N Podder records of the Indian Museum vol. XLIII, Part II pp 137-142 Calcutta June 1941.

Two parasites was named after him (Podder) Neoechinorhynchus chilkaensis Podder, Neoechinorhynchus topseyi Podder.

He was a real gentle man, soft spoken and devoted to ailing humanity and encouraged others for higher education and social services.

He left the world January 1950, living behind sons, daughter and so many relatives.

The major Aim of the Foundation is to cater and care the human values and to work for the upliftment of the society.
